It?s a hard time to find good music nowadays with the same 808 beat clap and club music swarming the industry.? Nevertheless, good music can still be found.? Chazick Bundick, better known as Toro y Moi, is an American recording artist and producer who has twisted the music industry to the positive side.? His music redefines the genres of rock and indie and gives living proof that creativity can still be found beyond the radio.? Senior Sam Spengler said, ?I think Toro y Moi carries a really creative and new side to music, I hope he gets a lot bigger, he deserves it.?? Toro y Moi is often identified with the ?chillwave? movement of the summer in 2010. ?Chillwave? is a genre of music characterized by heavy use of effects, synthesizers, looping, sampling, and heavy filtered vocals.
Chazick Bundick was born on November 7, 1986, in Columbia, South Carolina.? He attended Ridge View High School, where he formed a well-known Columbia indie rock band The Heist and the Accomplice, with three schoolmates.? Bundick is of a mix of Filipino and African American, his father being African and his mother Filipino.? Bundick graduated from the University of South Carolina in the spring of 2009, with a bachelor?s degree in graphic design.? He has since been signed to Carpark Records, on which Toro y Moi released his first album titled Causers of This in Jan. 2010.? Toro y Moi?s second album, Underneath the Pine, was released on Feb. 22, 2011.? On Sept. 13, 2011, Toro y Moi released his most recent album titled, ?Freaking Out?.
Toro y Moi mixes indie rock with the highest quality of music producing.? Sampling (chopping up songs and using them to create instrumentals) can be heard often throughout Toro y Moi?s music and groovy synthesizers catch the listener?s attention effectively.? Sophomore Chris Blondeau said, ?I love Toro y Moi because all of his songs are so catchy! I can?t even think of a bad song I?ve heard by him.?? Although Toro y Moi is still spreading and hasn?t been fully discovered yet, his fans seem to be growing quickly.? Each song gives a spark of hope against the poorly made music heard today.? Senior Natasha Gourlay said, ?True talent comes from hard work which many artists don?t have nowadays, Toro y Moi has that talent.?? It?s exciting to see good artists on the rise to the top during a time where music is all about the money. Toro y Moi brings the art back to music and fans wish him the best of luck on his journey to his dreams.
