Hotels for Dogs (and Cats): More People Traveling with Pets ...

Dog travelling in carWith more and more people traveling with pets, hip hotels are getting smart about catering to affluent families that count Fido and Fifi as part of the family.

In the past, many hotels that allowed pets were budget-friendly chains but now, high-end hotels are getting in on the action. Despite the recession, the pet industry continues to grow and has experienced and average growth of 5% over the past five years (American Pet Products Association).?

According to the American Pet Products Associations?s 2011-2012 survey, almost 11 million dog caregivers had taken their pets on a trip within the previous month and 23% of caregivers are willing to travel with their dogs for more than two nights.

Luxury hotels groups like Fairmont, Kimpton and DoubleTree by Hilton know the demand is there for affluent travelers looking to bring pets along on their trips. They?re also banking on luxury add-on services like pet massages to bring in more revenue.
