Interview with author, Shellie Neumeier ? Word Salt

(This article was originally published on Journey Thoughts March 1, 2011.)

Shellie writes for a young adult audience as I do.? She has a heart for youth and is a talented, gifted writer.? It is with great pleasure that I welcome Shellie today!

About the author:

Married for almost 20 years, Shellie and her husband have four wonderful children and two goofy greyhounds.?? After receiving her undergraduate degree in Secondary Education from the University of Wisconsin?Madison, she went on to acquire an early childhood education certificate.? Shellie also served in youth, children?s, special needs and family ministries for over twenty-two years.

Today she enjoys teaching her teens how to drive and chauffeuring her preteens across the Wisconsin countryside. And once in a while, she enjoys reading a classic tale or new suspense. In addition to writing fiction, Shellie is an avid blogger on her site http://shellieneumeier.com and several others including http://Samiesisters.com, http://www.suite101.com/profile.cfm/767774.com, and http://thebarndoor.net.

?Driven? is finally in print! How does it feel to hold your book in your hand?

Surreal. Amazing. Crazy. Like?who am I to have my name in print like that? It?s very cool.

What inspired you to write ?Driven??

What inspired me to write this book was the desire to encourage the next generation. They have an amazing access to their world with the ease of travel and the internet. They also have the opportunity to change their world unlike any previous generation has. But they?re also bombarded with harsh realism and even harsher dramatized ?realism.? It would be very easy to forget that they have a good and Godly purpose.

Tell us a little about yourself. What led you to begin writing?

Boredom, honestly. My children were old enough to entertain themselves when they weren?t in school and I grew tired of the daytime TV fare. When I threatened to delve into a project that involved power tools, my family scrambled to find something less dangerous for me to do. Telling stories had always been a favorite pastime, but writing them down hadn?t crossed my mind until my husband encouraged me to do so. I had to overcome my fear of grammar and creative writing rules before I could allow the story to develop.

I will forever be grateful for editors and critique partners; they are gifted beyond measure, in my mind.

Do you have a ?life verse? that you have claimed?? If so what is it and why is that verse so meaningful to you?

??For I know the plans I have for you,? declares the LORD, ?plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.??? Jeremiah 29:11

Awesome to know I?m not a random player wandering about without purpose! Love that.

Who (or what) is your greatest encourager when you write and why?

God is my greatest encourager. Whenever I?m in a slump or stuck in a doubting cycle, I take my two greyhounds for a walk out in the country and spend alone-time with God. Talk about inspiration.? My second greatest encourager is my husband. He?s the one that got me started along this path in the first place. And he keeps me trekking along, even when it feels like I?m going nowhere.

Is there anything else that you would like your readers to know about you that would give us even more of a glimpse into your personality and passions?

Someone once asked me if I were an animal what would I be and why. Here?s what I said? ?Hmm. I?d love to be a Jaguar, filled with grace and speed; or a she-lion, fierce in her cub?s protection; but my husband likens me to that dog in the movie UP (the one that says ?squirrel? with energized distraction).?? I think that gives you a good picture of my personality. :D

Where can we buy this book?

Amazon, Barnes and Noble online, and risenfiction.

About the book:

Robyn loves her friends, enjoys her youth group, and looks forward to meeting cute Caleb Montague. But when a caustic newsreporter challenges her school?s prayer team, Robyn must choose: defend their right to meet on campus and pray for whomever they wish or back down at the principal?s request.

Now she must learn what God wants her to do. And she had better learn fast, because there?s a supernatural enemy in town whose sole mission is to stop her?no matter the cost.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT Driven

Driven is a new take on the age old battle of good versus evil.? Gripping from the first page, this is one book you won?t want to put down.? ?Leanna Kay, co-creator of www.samiesisters.com ? a place for Christian girls to grow in faith.

Driven is a breathtaking book of tension, intrigue, and heartwarming emotion. From the moment I began to read until the very last word, I couldn?t put it aside. It held me enthralled!? ?Lindsay Below, author of Head Over Hand-Bought Heels ???????????????????????????????

Oily creatures of the night are seeking to destroy a group of teens at Brookfield Central High School. Their primary target? A resilient teenage girl who refuses to question her calling. But how much guilt, how much pain, and how much accusation can one human take? Laced with other-worldly plot threads akin to Frank Peretti?s This Present Darkness, Shellie Neumeier?s debut novel inspires followers of Christ to stand strong in God?s calling regardless of tragic circumstances. Along the way she explores tragedy in friendships and the beauty of redemption.? ?Caleb Jennings Breakey, Refining Teen Writers into Rockstars www.CalebBreakey.com

In the tradition of This Present Darkness and The Screwtape Letters, Driven pulls back the veil between worlds and reminds us that our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against Satan and his minions. But the journey of Robyn and her friends against both physical and spiritual enemies also illustrates the more exciting truth: that ultimate victory rests with our God.? ?Anne Mateer, author of
Wings of Dream, September 2011.

(AP) ? The Supreme Court's decision Thursday to uphold President Barack Obama's historic overhaul is expected to be a boon to most of the health care industry by making coverage more affordable for millions of uninsured Americans.

The ruling could give the biggest boost to hospitals and health insurers, but drugmakers and biotech companies also will get additional customers because the law requires nearly everyone to have health insurance by 2014 or pay a fine. That's expected to bring coverage to about 30 million more Americans.

But medical device makers will be hit with a tax on sales as a result of the law, and experts disagree on whether those companies will see much of a jump in business in a couple years.

Overall, the ruling could boost health care stocks both by increasing access to and use of health care and by ending months of uncertainty and speculation. Shares jumped on Thursday for hospitals, but fell slightly for drug makers and most insurers.

Here's the potential impact to each major sector in the health care industry:

DRUGMAKERS

The ruling's effect on drugmaker stocks was muted Thursday.

Les Funtleyder, health care fund manager at Poliwogg, a private equity fund for small investors, said that's because the ruling keeps the status quo for those companies.

He noted the law ? which the industry strongly supported ? didn't carry significant reductions in what government programs pay for medicines. That's a big positive given that drug prices are much higher in the U.S. than other countries and are a perennial target of industry critics and anyone looking for places to cut medical costs.

Biotech and traditional drugmakers likewise already are absorbing the negative parts of the health care law: fees based on their share of the prescription drug market, discounts to seniors on Medicare who have hit the "doughnut hole" coverage gap and much-higher rebates to the government on drugs bought through Medicaid.

All those costs from the overhaul are reflected in drugmakers' share prices and financial forecasts, said UBS drug analyst Matthew Roden.

He said the companies likely will get a boost in drug revenue from new patients starting in 2014, but not a huge one. That's because patients needing the most expensive drugs, for cancer and rare disorders, aren't going without now ? generally are getting them through government or industry patient assistance programs.

Roden thinks investors who shifted into safe-haven stocks such as pharmaceuticals recently on Thursday decided to jump over to hospitals, which appear to have fared best under the ruling.

HOSPITALS

Hospitals perhaps could have the most to gain from the law.

"Hospitals may be the biggest beneficiary because their biggest problem is people without insurance," said analyst Les Funtleyder, health care fund manager at Poliwogg, a private equity fund for small investors.

Indeed, the 30 million or more people expected to gain health insurance in 2014 will reduce the number of uninsured patients showing up at hospitals needing urgent care, often for conditions that could have been treated much more cheaply early on.

Such charity care has been a big drag on hospitals, and those costs should drop sharply. Federal payments to hospitals to offset some charity care costs will be reduced as more people are insured, said UBS health care services analyst A.J. Rice.

More importantly, he expects those newly insured folks to seek more tests and nonemergency treatments at hospitals, including for chronic health conditions such as diabetes, boosting hospital patient volume. But there are tradeoffs, as hospitals will get smaller annual increases in Medicare payment rates.

"There's a lot of variables to be worked out," Rice said, but "the net effect should be positive" for hospitals.

INSURERS

Insurers will get millions of new customers thanks to tax credits that will help middle class people pay for coverage on the individual market, and the state-federal Medicaid program will still expand. Additionally, the requirement that nearly every American have insurance will compel more people to buy coverage.

But insurers will also face hefty fees and restrictions because of the law. The health insurance sector will pay annual fees starting in 2014. They total $8 billion that first year and then climb in subsequent years.

The law also restricts how much insurers can vary their pricing based on things like age and it will require them to cover everyone who applies starting in 2014. The law also requires insurers to spend a minimum percentage of the premiums they collect on care and quality improvements or pay rebates to some of its customers.

Citi analyst Carl McDonald said insurers also face considerable risks that they will get mostly sick people signing up for coverage in the online health insurance exchanges that begin in a couple years. The exchanges are like online marketplaces where people can shop for coverage much like they do for airline tickets on travel web sites.

He noted the mandate that requires people to purchase coverage will lead to only a $95 tax penalty at least initially. The analyst said that won't be strong enough to persuade young healthy people to sign up for coverage.

The overhaul requires insurers to cover all who apply for insurance starting in 2014, which means they won't be able to deny coverage to someone with a pre-existing condition like diabetes. Insurers have said that for this to happen, they will need a balance of healthy customers to counter people who produce more in claims than they pay in premiums.

MEDICAL DEVICE MAKERS

For medical device makers, the bad news is that the tax on devices stays. Medical device makers will have to start paying a 2.3 percent tax beginning in January on their sales of devices such as pacemakers and CT scan machines imposed under the overhaul law. But they could more customers.

Funtleyder, the health care fund manager, said it was all negative, because he doesn't foresee a big jump in device sales resulting from the ruling: "People who need a pacemaker already were getting one."

But Leerink Swann analyst Richard Newitter wrote that he expects more doctor visits and hospital procedures to increase sales of devices.

One trade group for the industry, the Medical Device Manufacturers Association, said that Congress and the president must repeal the tax, arguing it would make it harder for companies to develop innovative new devices.

"It is clear that this misguided policy has already led to job losses and cuts to research and development," Mark Leahey, the group's president, said in a statement.

(AP) ? For a morning show used to celebrating family and a connection with its audience, the "Today" show's farewell to co-host Ann Curry on Thursday was brief, tearful and sad.

It was tinged with the sense of failure, something NBC's dominant morning show hasn't experienced in a long time.

Curry, who was co-host with Matt Lauer for a year after several years as the news anchor, fought back tears on the air, saying "this is not as I expected to ever leave this couch."

Her departure ended a week's worth of awkward television. She came to work after word got out that NBC was looking to oust her, with neither she nor the network commenting on the stories until Thursday. "I'm sorry I couldn't carry the ball over the finish line but, man, I did try," she said.

While Curry was placed in a role to which she was unsuited, blaming her for the "Today" show's troubles would be simplistic. Expecting her successor ? most likely NBC's Savannah Guthrie ? to author an immediate turnaround would be unrealistic.

"There's nothing wrong with Ann Curry," said Shelley Ross, former producer for ABC's "Good Morning America" and CBS' "The Early Show." ''It is not an Ann Curry failure."

Her ouster, however, was NBC's first visible response to the end of its historic winning streak this spring. Starting in December 1995, NBC had won every week in the morning show ratings ? 852 consecutive weeks ? until being topped by "Good Morning America." The two shows have since traded victories, with ABC winning a total of four weeks.

NBC's long decline in prime-time has likely affected the "Today" show, giving it less visibility among viewers. The network's executives say that "Good Morning America" does particularly well when it features members of the "Dancing With the Stars" cast from ABC's prime-time lineup.

But it's clear that ABC's morning show has been on the upswing and has a team of obvious chemistry, while "Today" has been on its heels. Ross said the show needs to be "fresher and scrappier."

"The 'Today' show is now stagnating from what I would call the arrogance of being No. 1," she said. "That will happen to anybody. You stagnate because you're No. 1 and think you don't need to change."

It's hard to overstate the importance of the "Today" show to NBC, particularly with so many other things at the network going wrong. Last year "Today" earned an estimated $484 million in revenue, more than "GMA" ($298 million) and CBS' morning show ($156 million) combined, according to Kantar Media. Losing the top spot in the ratings means a lot more than bragging rights.

"It's a tough business and there's a huge amount of money involved here," said Bill Wheatley, a former NBC News executive who now teaches at Columbia University.

Television is no different than sports or the business world in the likelihood that someone will take a fall when things go wrong. Curry's co-host, Matt Lauer, is generally considered the top anchor in morning television now, and maybe of all time, and he recently signed a new contract. He's not going anywhere. The "Today" executive producer, Jim Bell, is regarded highly at NBC and was given the additional assignment of producing the network's Olympic coverage from London.

Enter Curry.

Curry is respected as a reporter at NBC News, and is staying at the network to continue in a reporting role. Yet when Katie Couric left "Today" to go to CBS, Curry was passed over for the top job for Meredith Vieira.

Vieira had unassailable credentials as a former "60 Minutes" reporter at CBS News and the dominant personality on the talk show "The View." There was no one in the wings with such strength when Vieira left, and there was a general sense at NBC that Curry deserved the chance to be co-host and viewers would resent it if she didn't get one.

Yet she never seemed to achieve a solid comfort level. One former morning show producer said the chemistry involved in such programs is like seeing people who dance well together ? they anticipate moves, know preferences and instinctively follow each other's cues. That was a strength for "Today" for many years, and it didn't seem to work with Curry in her new role.

She was luckless, too, as when she was hit in the head by a camera on Tuesday's show.

She's a smart, earnest woman who appears offscreen exactly as she is on the air. She'll give an intense stare and expression of concern, maybe touch an arm for emphasis. She cares deeply. "You have the biggest heart in the business," Lauer said on Thursday. "You put it on display every single day in this studio."

Somehow, though, it came off on television as more odd than heartwarming.

When word spread that NBC was negotiating Curry's departure, the network privately wanted to emphasize that Lauer was in no way behind it. There's no evidence that he was. Yet he's an extremely powerful man at NBC News, and if he fought hard to keep Curry, that's not evident either.

With her new reporting role, Curry won't be disappearing from the air. She'll even be back on "Today" with reports occasionally, and Lauer said she will accompany the "Today" team to London for its Olympics coverage, considered an important showcase for "Today" to renew its lapsed relationship with some longtime viewers.

How to Boost Your Website Traffic and Profits with Content! ? SMB ...

by: Hans Hasselfors

Are you aware of how vitally important and valuable CONTENT is to your

online business? In fact, content can do more to build your business and

profits than just about any other resource or service available.

Following is a list of 5 key ways that content can help build your

website traffic, subscribers, and customers starting today!?

1. Boost your search engine ranking and daily visitor count by posting

keyword rich articles and content on your website. For example, if your

business involves offering products and services related to internet

marketing, posting internet marketing related articles and content will

attract unlimited prospective customers on a regular basis!

2. Generate double or even triple the number of newsletter subscribers

you do currently, simply by offering content in the form of ?special

reports? or manuals as bonuses for subscribing to your publication.

People love freebies, so give them what they want and watch as your

results increase!

3. Create an automated cashflow by using content to formulate multi-part

email training courses with related website or affiliate links

?sprinkled? throughout each course. Use an autoresponder service to

automate the delivery of your training course (such as a 5 part training

course delivered over a 5 day period).

Training courses can also serve as excellent bonus offers for your

prospective newsletter subscribers.

4. One of the most important keys to a successful online business is not

JUST having a list of mailing list or newsletter subscribers? It?s

about building a trusting relationship with your subscribers (ie,

?cultivating? your list)?

By sending informative articles (content) to your list on a regular basis

you will establish yourself as an expert on your topic of business, as

well as gain the trust of your subscribers over time. As a result, your

subscribers will be EAGER to take advantage of your ?paid? product and

service offers. (Just make sure that you NEVER take advantage of the

relationship you develop with your list by offering products or services

of poor quality just to make a quick buck!)

If there is one ?constant? in Internet marketing, it?s this: A cultivated

list of subscribers is as good as money in the bank. Write that down and

never forget it!

5. Another excellent way to generate no cost website traffic is by

submitting ready-made articles to ?content hungry? website and newsletter

publishers with your ?resource box? attached. A resource box is nothing

more than a little 3-6 line ?bio? about you and/or your web-site -

including a link to your site (or even instructions on how to subscribe

to your newsletter)?

When submitting or offering your article(s) for reprint purposes, just

make sure to specify that each article is to be reprinted ?as is? with

your resource box attached.

?Even one article can go a LONG way towards generating no cost website

traffic and visitors for you. Just imagine your article being sent out to

a newsletter subscriber base of 100,000 individuals ? many of whom will

be reading YOUR included resource box and clicking on your URL to learn

more about what you have to offer!

Well there you have it, 5 sure ways to build your online business

exponentially with the help of articles and content?

With the declining effectiveness of many of the online advertising

methods that we?ve relied on in past years, content is only strengthening

its position as the ultimate KEY to generating unlimited website traffic,

subscribers, and customers!

prsa-sunshine-conference-2012-public-speaking-recap - Schipul Blog

I had the privilege to speak during and attend the PRSA Sunshine District Conference 2012 last week in Tampa Bay, Florida! The theme was Navigating New PR Channels.

Sunshine 2012 (or hashtag #Sunshine2012) was a fantastic conference that featured speakers in PR, Marketing, and Communications discussing brands from Coca-Cola to Playstation to local NHL team the Tampa Bay Lightning. And included an address by PRSA President Bill Murray (no, not that Bill Murray).

See all of the photos of my trip on Schipul.com & read some of the highlights below!

My Presentation ? SEO Metrics in the Real World

My presentation was on SEO Web Metrics in the Real World. Web metrics can be overwhelming, especially considering the constant changes in web trends and interfaces!

I focused on what metrics matter most when making sense of all of the data available from tools like Google Analytics and Google Webmaster Tools, and tips for complementing that data with offline metrics.

Major points from my presentation:

  1. Top 5 Metrics I look at when reading Analytics reports:
    1. Traffic Trends ? should mirror offline season trends
    2. Sources ? including PR & social media linkbacks
    3. Keywords ? branded and non-branded
    4. Content ? top content & what is changing
    5. Conversion Path
  2. Test, Test, Test!
    • As Ed often reminds me:??There is no such thing as a marketing argument, only a marketing test?
    • Use Google URL Builder to create Campaigns to A/B test ? try to test one thing at a time, and keep iterating
  3. My top tip for tracking offline data: Involve Sales in the process!
    • Educate your sales team on SEO, and ask for their feedback on trends they are seeing and ideas for new content. They have great insight from their interactions with customers!
    • Have your team who answers the phones ask prospects how they heard about you, including what term they searched in Google if possible
  4. Remember that Rank isn?t everything!?
    • Search Engine Marketing is a funnel of impressions in search, clicks through to your website, and if the content on your site is compelling enough ? conversions
    • Scrutinize every part of the funnel!

Insight from the Fantastic Speakers of #Sunshine2012

I got a lot of insight from the informative and actionable content from all the speakers throughout the conference. A few major trends from the conference speakers:

1. ?Brand Control? is moving to the consumers

  • Allyson Park -?Vice President of Corporate External Affairs, The Coca-Cola Company ? focused much of her talk on how the brand is no longer in the hands of the company ? the brand owner is now the consumer
  • Coke embraces this ? their Facebook page is still run by the 2 fans who created it initially!
  • A recent Coca Cola marketing campaign showcases the real people who love the brand ? ?Every bottle has a story? ? including this fantastic video currently shown in the India market:

2. Take advantage of technology tools, especially mobile devices

Many speakers noted new tools and technology that are becoming more and more important as part of the marketing/PR mix. This is all about using all of the tools in your toolkit. For instance: Video content is powerful and easier than ever to distribute. Social Media is a power customer service tool when used correctly.

Check out all the slides from Tony & Amber of Head of Lettuce?s presentation on the Cardinal Sins of Social Media?- including tips for tapping into your online advocates.

Mobile!

Taking advantage of mobile devices to deliver real time relevant content through mobile sites and mobile apps is becoming not just an advantage, but more and more an expectation of brands.?Here are some stats from Jody Haneke?s?presentation on the Mobile Marketing Mix:

  • 35% of mobile workers check email before anything else ? before getting dressed or eating breakfast
  • 53% of tablet users read news on their phone every day
  • Smartphone and tablet users visit more pages in a given sitting than people on a desktop
  • SMS still the most widely used mobile data form on the planet.

3. Content Strategy

You can?t be everything to everyone, focus on what makes sense and keep it organization.

Some great tips from?Josh Hallett of Voce Connect, who manages large amounts of content for brands like Sony Playstation:

  • Plan ?episodic? content that you can schedule in advance ? i.e. ?Throwback Thursday? or Employee Spotlight
  • Don?t host your video ? post on YouTube or Vimeo and embed, you get the advantage of the second network
  • Focus on your content plan ? what makes sense for your brand, don?t worry too much about platform changes
  • Help your visitors by telling them what is the most important item today or this week. Make your top post ?sticky? or give it more prominence ? this helps visitors navigate and helps you promote your top priority
  • It?s ok to share something more than once ? especially on a real time platform like Twitter. Post at a different time of day with a different call to action or perspective and monitor your results!

4. The Importance of Internal Communication

??As leaders, everything that we say or do communicates something?? ? Keynote David Grossman

David Grossman spoke on the concept that we can?t not communicate ? everything you do from how you speak to how you spend your time to body language communicates SOMETHING to the organization.?Our brains are wired to take in a scene and draw conclusions, so that?s what people do.

This is especially important as the intangible benefits matter more and more to employee satisfaction. Communication is key is leadership, including in meeting employee needs.

What do great leader communicators do?

  1. Become Audience Obsessed
  2. Make messages clear, compelling, & relevant
  3. Plan your communication
  4. Set context and make information relevant
  5. Listen and check for understanding
  6. Select the right vehicle
  7. Communicate with truth & integrity
  8. Match words & actions

I am looking forward to reading more in David?s book ?You Can?t Not Communicate?!

Wildfire displaces thousands near Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Reuters) - A wildfire roaring virtually unchecked near some of Colorado's most visited tourist sites kept some 4,800 people out of their homes on Tuesday on the outskirts of the state's second-most populous city, authorities said.

The so-called Waldo Canyon fire sent a mushroom cloud of smoke nearly 20,000 feet into the air over Colorado Springs near the foot of Pikes Peak, whose breathtaking vistas from the summit helped inspire the song "America the Beautiful".

Closer to the blaze, which has been fanned by stiff, hot winds blowing into the Southern Rockies from the prairies to the east, trees were visibly twisting from the heat of the flames.

Operators of a famous cog railway that carries tourists from around the world up the picturesque mountainside said the trains would remain shut down on Tuesday for a third straight day.

The highway that leads up to Pikes Peak has been closed since shortly after the fire erupted on Saturday, as has the popular Garden of the Gods, a city-owned park encompassing scenic geologic formations such as tall, rocky spires and oddly balanced boulders.

The closures around Pikes Peak, billed the world's second-most visited mountain after Japan's Mount Fuji, have drawn attention to the fire's negative impact on the tourism industry just at the start of the peak summer travel season.

After three days, the blaze has scorched an estimated 4,000 acres, and fire crews managed to carve containment lines around just 5 percent of its perimeter. The cause was under investigation.

No casualties or property losses were reported, but thousands of residents have been displaced by evacuations.

Raging through dry timber about 80 miles south of Denver, the Waldo Canyon fire had initially forced 11,000 people from their homes over the weekend, though residents from the town of Manitou Springs were allowed back on Sunday night.

As of late Monday, an estimated 4,800 people were under evacuation orders on the western outskirts of Colorado Springs.

One of them, Meg Duster, 27, stood watching the blaze from a safe distance at a fire command center. "I'm trying to remain optimistic, but it's so hard," she said, her voice quivering.

FIRE NEAR AIR FORCE ACADEMY

The U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs was still about 10 miles away from the leading edge of the blaze, though fire officials had earlier listed the complex as being in harm's way. A recreation area belonging to the academy was ordered evacuated due to its proximity to the fire, and all trails leading west of the school were closed, the base said.

The wildfire was one of about a dozen burning out of control around Colorado, including the monster-sized High Park Fire near Fort Collins, a university town north of Denver close to the Wyoming border.

"We're going to be continuing to have to deal with these fires for weeks to come," U.S. Forest Service Chief Tom Tidwell said. "We anticipate it's going to be a long fire season."

The High Park Fire - the state's second-largest blaze on record and its most destructive ever - has consumed 83,205 acres in steep canyons since it was sparked by lightning two weeks ago. It is blamed for the death of a 62-year-old woman in her cabin and has destroyed 248 homes.

An estimated 4,300 people remain evacuated from their homes as that fire burns through grass, brush and Ponderosa pine.

In southwestern Colorado, the Weber Fire grew to 8,300 acres overnight but firefighters held it about one mile southeast of the small town of Mancos, east of Mesa Verde National Park. Roughly 50 homes were evacuated, officials said.

Meanwhile, in neighboring Utah, a fast-growing 39,000-acre (15,780-ha) wildfire continued to rage largely out of control on Monday after burning an estimated 30 homes and killing 75 sheep between the rural communities of Fountain Green and Indianola.

Governor Gary Herbert, who toured the fire by helicopter on Monday, estimated the property losses so far at $7 million. No injuries have been reported, but Herbert said fire officials did use a helicopter to rescue some shepherds from the fire's path.

Establishing credit as a youngin'? | Wall Street Oasis

I don't understand how hard it is to own a credit card and use it responsibly. It honestly BLOWS my mind that people think they can charge things to the card and not be able to pay for it in full by the end of the month. Unless you fall into hard times and HAVE to pay for something urgent, like medical bills or whatnot, there simply is no fucking excuse to have shitty credit and credit card debt.

I opened a credit card when I was a freshman in college in 2007 and paid it off FULLY each and every single month. It's just common fucking sense that you can't spend more than what you have/make.

I almost never ever carry cash and use my credit card for all my purchases whenever possible, which is pretty much everything I ever buy. I have excellent credit (750+) and my credit limits are pretty damn high.

When I hear my friends say they're scared to use one and only use debit cards, I just don't understand how they can rationalize this. These are smart kids too.

Fucking get a credit card, use it, and pay it off in FULL every month. How hard is that?!

I don't care how smart you are, how much money you make, or anything. If you can't handle a credit card responsibly, you are fucking retarded. It's not rocket science.

There is absolutely no freaking way I can fuck myself by charging so much to my credit card to extend a lifestyle that would crush me were I to lose my job because I live below my means, have saved up a good chunk of change, and USE MY CREDIT CARD RESPONSIBLY!

OP: get a Visa/Mastercard and use it for necessary purchases and pay it off in full every single month. Once you graduate and land a job, get an Amex. Those things are fucking amazing when it comes to purchase protection, warranty extensions, fraud protection, everything!

Because of this goddamn recession and the credit crunch, it's going to be so much more advantageous and important to have 'EXCELLENT' credit. Start early, aka, NOW.

Tri Krill | Krill Oil For Pets | Astaxanthin | Petenzymes.com ...

Tri Krill Oil For Pets

Here are a few more popular questions we have received about Tri-Krill?! Learn how Tri-Krill? can be of benefit to your pet!

Can I give Krill Oil to my pet if he/she is allergic to fish or shellfish?

Absolutely not. Talk with your veterinarian if you suspect your pet is allergic to shellfish or fish. Some? krill oil blends also contain some fish oil as a carrier, and fish can end up in the krill biomass as a by-catch. So, if your pet is allergic to any fish do not give him/her this product.

The Directions say to give my pet 1-2 soft gels. So can I give them the whole soft gel or do I need to break it open?

Tri Krill Oil For PetsYou may break it open if you like. However, you can simply give your pet the soft gel by placing it in their food whole, or it can be given separately-in the original soft gel form- as a treat. Keep in mind that the soft gels are human grade supplements so they are very safe for pets. Tri-KRILL? does not contain any ingredients that are harmful for pets.

Have there been any studies on pets supplementing with Krill Oil?

Studies have been conducted, revealing that arthritis improved 47% in mice supplementing with Krill Oil as opposed to the 26% improvement when supplementing with Fish Oil.

Why is it so important to supplement my pet?s diet with Omega 3 fatty acids?

Tri Krill Oil For PetsToday, our pets are receiving more Omega 6 fatty acids in their diets than necessary. The cattle meat used in most pet foods contains an unnecessary amount of Omega 6 fatty acids because the cattle are now being fed grains instead of grass. Too many Omega 6 fatty acids can cause arthritis, allergies, skin disorders and obesity in our pets. Supplementing our pets? diets with Omega 3 fatty acids will help to normalize this imbalance. Krill Oil absorbs quickly into the system, providing benefits such as agility, decreased inflammation, and can help maintain a healthy heart, brain and nervous system. Ask your veterinarian about how Krill Oil can benefit your pet!?

Isn?t fish oil a good source of Omega 3 fatty acids too?

Yes. However, Krill oil contains a higher concentration of Omega 3 fatty acids, and also contains Astaxanthin, which is an added nutritional benefit. It does not contain mercury and therefore there is no added risk of heavy metal poisoning. In addition, Krill Oil contains highly bioavailable EPA and DHA which can aid in cognitive function, and help fight mood swings and inflammation. Krill Oil is FOUR times more potent than Fish Oil and therefore has four times the benefit!

Good news? Demand for gas plummets, oil prices sink

The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline is $3.45?-- 18 cents below last year, and 23 cents lower than May. That's good news for commuters, road-trippers, and other folks who depend on their cars. Crude oil prices have also dropped.

By Richard Read,?Guest blogger / June 22, 2012

Competing gasoline stations advertise gas at 3.199 and 3.323 per gallon in Oklahoma City, Thursday, June 21, 2012.

Today, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline is?$3.45?-- 18 cents below last year, and 23 cents lower than May. That's good news for commuters, road-trippers, and other folks who depend on gas to get from here to there.

But wait, there's more: according to the?Detroit Free Press, demand for gasoline has plummeted4.8%?in the past few days, hitting levels not seen since October. And according to our notes from Econ 101, reduced demand means reduced prices. (Note: this comes at a time when consumption in the U.S. is already declining, which has made?America a net exporter of gas and diesel.)?

And as if that weren't enough, the price of crude?oil?has dipped below $80 a barrel, which is also?something we haven't seen since October. Oil now sits 30% below its March highs, and analysts across the board are at odds over when prices will rebound, with most blaming the sluggish European economy for the drop-off. That should help keep gas prices on the retreat -- at least for a while.

Good news for travelers?

Obviously, lower gas prices are great news for drivers, including summer vacationers traveling by?car. However, those going by plane may not be so lucky: while the cost of jet fuel is related to the cost of gasoline, the two don't always move in lockstep. (For example, jet fuel prices are ever so slightly?higher now than they were last week.)?

More importantly, though,?airlines?aren't always quick to reduce fares, even when their cost of doing business drops. Which, of course, is how they make moolah.

And there's even some bad news for road-trippers, because instability in the oil market often translates into instability in the broader?financial?markets. That kind of economic uncertainty takes its toll on your savings -- meaning that you might be able to afford that drive out to Yellowstone this year, but next year? Maybe not so much.

Our advice? Take advantage of the good situation and wring as much enjoyment as possible from this summer's vacation. And send pics!

Arbonne Review ? Cosmetics Home Based Business

June 23rd, 2012 by admin

This Arbonne review reveals a successful cosmetics home based opportunity. Arbonne International is a multi level marketing California based business. Arbonne is an eminent manufacturer of cosmetic and skin care products. Arbonne has been in the manufacturing field for more than twenty whole years now. Beyond two hundred items appear in the Arbonne line of products, which include general skin care, acne and anti aging products for children, women, and men. Aroma essentials are also manufactured by Arbonne International. This product line embraces soaps, candles, a range of body lotions, massage oils and bath oils. Arbonne International has witnessed immense success in these years and the profits of the company have always been mounting. The annual sales of the company count up to around thirty million American dollars. Avon and Mary Kay have a serious contender now with Arbonne international. The hefty price is the only downside of Arbonne International products. Arbonne has satisfied its customers completely and they have nothing to complain about. However, the expensive skin products become difficult to sell, which is a problem that is faced by the resellers of Arbonne International. The MLM business model is employed by Arbonne International?s business side. This model is a lot similar to that of Quixtar. Thirty five percent commissions is earned by the consultants of Arbonne on their sales, but the guidelines of reselling and marketing have to be strictly adhered to. Most people in the other businesses that employ the MLM model do not make serious profits as often as Arbonne distributors. The structure of MLM is such that if friends and family are the clients, then success becomes very hard to achieve. Custom websites cannot be used for selling online by the consultants of Arbonne International. A pre made Arbonne website needs to be purchased in order to sell products online. Getting a cookie cutter website loaded with traffic is very difficult in this case.

Is Peter Thiel warming to energy investing? ? Cleantech News and ...

Peter Thiel (photo courtesy of The Thiel Foundation)

Last year investor Peter Thiel surprised a lot of people in the energy sector by calling cleantech investing ?a disaster? and saying clean energy innovation has been a failure. However, fast forward about nine months, and Thiel just announced that he?s the largest investor in a new potentially $1 billion growth fund that will back companies across sectors including in energy and those tackling resource constraints.

The new fund, which already closed on $402 million, is called Mithril Capital Management after a type of metal described in?J.R.R. Tolkien?s The Lord of Rings. Investors Ajay Royan and Jim O?Neill will help co-manage the fund.

Best of luck to them. Backing companies that are looking to solve large problems in slow-moving industries like energy has tended to take longer, need more money, and just prove more difficult to fund than backing, say, web and mobile software startups. That?s why investors like Kleiner Perkins, Draper Fisher Jurvetson and Index Ventures have grown increasingly cold on cleantech.

Royan tells the San Jose Mercury News that:

?The best founders want to radically change the world for the better. To many investors, visionary entrepreneurs come off as na?ve or worse ? isn?t it safer/easier/more profitable to create a(nother) social network for cat fanciers. . . ?

Royan tells All Things D that it will invest in ?the non-fashionable companies,? so don?t expect social media or cloud investments from them.

Hmmm, sounds like cleantech might have some new friends.
