For students in grades 9 - 12, Herndon High School is the local public school in both the town of Herndon and outlying areas like Reston.? First opened in 1911 in the current location of Herndon Middle School on Locust Street, the high school moved to its current location in 1967. The school mascot is the Fighting Hornet.
