New iPad's heat issue caught on thermal camera

9 hrs.

According to tests conducted by Consumer Reports, the new iPad runs hotter than its?predecessor. A recently released thermal photo shows the heat difference quite clearly.

As you can see in the image above, the new iPad hits temperatures of about 116 degrees Fahrenheit after about 45 minutes of running an intense-action game. This is up to 14 degrees F warmer than the iPad 2 will run under similar conditions, based on Consumer Reports' analysis.

"During our tests, I held the new iPad in my hands. When it was at its hottest, it felt very warm but not especially uncomfortable if held for a brief period," Consumer Reports reviewer Donna Tapellini explained according to Reuters.

An Apple spokeswoman told Reuters that the new iPad runs "within [Apple's] thermal specifications." The Apple website lists?the third-generation iPad's operating temperature as 32 to 95 degrees F.
